A couple of customs people do are:

To get someone's attention, I-Kiribati call out Neiko (Woman) or Nao (Man), even if the person's name is known

Another one is in the outer islands kids call their parents by their given name but children in South Tarawa call their parents “daddy” and “mummy”

Kiribati people do not usually shake each other's hands as a sign of greeting except for in official gatherings

Two polite phrases:

People say Mauri as a greeting

Another greeting is Ko naera? Which is a little more informal greeting which means: Where are you going?

Languages spoken:

The Kiribati people speak a Micronesian dialect called Gilbertese, or Kiribati

They have a different language than we have here

Also the Kiribatian alphabet only has 13 letters
